knowledge.
This course is for self-motivated individuals who can respond to challenges by
thinking on their feet and who wish to develop intellectual and creative potential in
the field of fashion merchandising. Such an individual should be able to articulate
and think strategically and contribute original ideas. Awareness of current issues in
the field of fashion and fashion merchandise will make them successful in this profile
of the fashion industry.
The course is delivered over four semesters through contact teaching, learning and
industry based projects and case studies. During Semester Two the course
concentrates on developing holistic understanding and skills in the specific area of
merchandising and helping the students to understand the integrative nature and
role of a merchandiser in the fashion business environment. This semester also
further develops and enhances the students’ product skills and market knowledge.
At the close of the semester, the students will be sent on an eight week industry
internship. Semester Three focuses on developing the students’ research and
applied skills through modules in product development, costing and pricing, CAD
and industry based projects that integrate the classroom learning experience with
industry practices. Semester Four culminates with the defense of an industry based
applied project developed individually by the students to demonstrate their ability to
develop an innovative and practical solution to different problems.
SYNTHESIS
At this forum, students display their final research projects to the business
community in a highly professional setting. Recipients of 'Innovative Research
Awards', 'Outstanding Research Award' and 'Practical Research Award' make formal
presentations and address queries raised by industry members.
